The 100 Mile House & District Soccer Association U15 Storm girls fared well at the Kamloops Youth Soccer Association Slurpee Cup in Kamloops on May 21-22.
The girls placed third in their division after downing Calgary Hurricane 2-0 and finishing in a 1-1 draw with Ladner Strikers and another 0-0 tie with Quesnel Strikers. Kamloops Blaze was the only team that succeeded in claiming a victory over 100 Mile, which they did by a score of 4-0.
Team manager Jeannie Capnerhurst says the game with Kamloops saw a vast improvement over last year’s 11-0 loss to the same team.
“Our girls have improved a lot. They did very well.”
Tournament scorers were Courtney Dolinski and Tiffany Keating who was also named player of the game in the match with Ladner.
Adrianna Johnson was player of the game versus Quesnel, and in the Kamloops match-up, it was Michelle Contreras. The Calgary game saw Dolinski named player of the game.
The U13 girls, coached by Shawn Nelson, started the tournament on a high note, taking down the Quesnel Strikers, 2-1 in their first game. Kamloops Blaze beat 100 Mile 10-1 in game 2.
Game 3 against Abbotsford Thunder ended in a 5-2 loss for 100 Mile, and Quesnel Strikers squeaked by with a 2-1 win over the team in their rematch, which ultimately left 100 Mile in fourth place.
Players of the game were Charlie McQueen, Taylor Hawes, Shay Tanner and Kira Saenger. Goals were scored by Paige Hall, Justyne Zimmerman, Avery Rutledge and Tanner.
The 100 Mile U13 Storm boys suffered four losses to find themselves in fifth place at the end of the tournament. They went down to Quesnel, Whalley, Prince George and Vernon, but coach Lisa Davidson says the games were productive.
“We did not win a game, but got valuable playing experience.”
Players of the game were Jesse Stich, Jacob Fisher, Masen Fernandes and Reid Davidson. 100 Mile goaltenders were Kean Kellermeier and Stich.
The U18 Storm also lost their four games to end up in fourth place.
