FSJ Family Tae Kwon Do took a small team of 14 members down to Burnaby for provincial competition, and brought back 23 medals.
It was the B.C. International Tae Kwon Do Federation (ITF) Provincial Championships, with around 250 competitors from across the province, and the Fort St. James team placed third overall.
Head Instructor Vera Poole said she was very impressed with her club, and felt their performance at the provincial competition made the ITF world take notice of their small club.
Due to small numbers in some belt categories, some of those who medalled were even competing against higher-ranked athletes.
Poole called Chad Lantz’s performance “quite spectacular” as Lantz brought home gold in sparring and bronze in patterns competing as a red belt, while Lantz is a blue belt.
Poole herself won gold in the super senior women’s black belt category.
