While most Gold Pan Residents were waiting out a schizophrenic season that couldn’t decide whether to switch to spring or stay with winter, a contingent of Quesnelers were playing golf in tropical climes.
March 13, 37 golfers, mostly Gold Pan Residents, gathered at the Indians Canyon Golf Resort in Palm Springs, California to celebrate their freedom from the snow and mud of a Cariboo spring.
“It was our first year and we hope to do it again because everyone had a good time,” Lorne Martindale, a self-professed snowbird and tournament organizer said.
Cy McConnel won the ‘A’ Flight, with Norm Armstrong taking the ‘B’ Flight and Steve Patterson topping the ‘C’ Flight. Judy Huska took the Ladies Flight.
The dinner later drew 60 snowbirds to eat and talk about how much better the weather was in sunny California in March than their winter roost’s grey skies and grey snow.
