Soccer club hands out year-end awards

'It has been a season that goes down in history'

It’s the end of one season and the beginning of another for the Sooke Soccer Club.

The winter season has come to a close, but the spring season kicked off on Monday (April 23).

“It has been a season that goes down in history,” club president Laura Lockhart said. “We were all part of something magnificent and on behalf of our executive, we want to continue to grow, strengthen and achieve as the little club that could.”

The winter season award winners include:

U13 Boys – Benat Garat, top scorer; Adriel Stratton, best goalie; and Tavis Olcen, MVP

U13 Girls – Shelby Wilson, most improved player; Makenna Whitten, MVP; and Louisa Ralph, unsung hero

U15 Boys – Jayden Ward, most improved player; Austin Owens, most dedicated player; and Tyler Linell, MVP

U15 Girls – Hope Cox, most improved player; Rheana Desjardins, most inspirational player; Lexis Patey, MVP

U16 Boys – David Heslop, defensive player of the year; Keeqan Quinn, young offensive player of the year; Riley Stratton, golden boot

U16 Girls – Ayeisha Desjardins, most improved player; Allana Garat, best PK; Jaylin Shaw, most skilled player

Over 40 Men – Paul Clarkston, MVP; Roland Young, spirit of play; Nathan Hornsby, best beer brother

Division 4 Men – Bob Nex, for 36 Years of glory and most outstanding moustache; Jacob Dyer, players choice award; Ayden Ostropolski, MVP

Division 2 Men – Papa Gus, most sportsmanlike; Jared Cooper, most hustle; Robbie Heggelund, MVP

Over 30 Women – Holly Hamilton, MVP; Kristine Wickheim, most improved player; Tammi Dimock, most sportsmanlike

Division 3 Women – Alyssa Seabrook, MVP; Kristen VanVeen, most underappreciated player; and Kaylie Flett, coaches award.
