One of two remaining unnamed fields at the 100 Mile Soccer Park has a name.

The field previously known as the U8 A field was recently dedicated as the Dylan Castonguay Memorial Field as a tribute to Dylan, who passed away in 2000 at the age of 15. His family owns 100 Mile Ranch.

When the District of 100 Mile House granted land to the 100 Mile House & District Soccer Association (OMHSA) for the development of a soccer park, there was no public access to the property. 100 Mile Ranch granted the club an easement for access and for parking.

Dylan’s mother, Marina Cecil, who is an owner of the ranch, says it meant a lot to her family to see the sign with Dylan’s name on it installed at the park.

“Dylan played soccer for years locally and was a pretty good little player. At that time, all soccer was played on school fields.”

OMHSA sponsorship director Werner Heine says the club has always wanted to show 100 Mile Ranch its appreciation for granting the access and noted the field has been referred to as the Dylan Castonguay Memorial Field since the beginning of the 2012 season.

The field currently known as the U8 B field is the only one of six that remains without a sponsor.
