The Boundary Youth Soccer Association’s (BYSA) U14 team went to the Eye of the Storm tournament in Castlegar and did very well against a number of rep teams.
“The team played two games a day and ended up with bronze medals,” said Jeff Olsen, executive director for BYSA. “It was an incredible achievement for this group playing against established rep teams from the Kootenays.”
Olsen said the competition was steep and the team was plagued with injuries and illnesses but they still managed to perform very well.
“We had no subs all of Sunday,” he said. “In the last game for silver/bronze, the opposition (Trail) had six subs to our none but we only lost 6-3. A win for them but a victory for us.”
Also attending the tournament were teams from Nelson and host Castlegar.
The U14 team is coached by Scott Dribney, who has been with the group since the beginning of BYSA in 2011.
