Two Sooke Soccer Club women’s teams made it to recent cup finals.
The U14 girls team beat out Peninsula 6-5 in a nailbiter of a game to claim the District Cup Finals on April 8.
The first half was dominated by Sooke with many chances including a penalty kick.
In the second half, Peninsula pushed hard, and the game ended up going to a shootout.
Coaches Rob and Nicole Oyler said they were proud of this dynamic young team and look forward to seeing how they do next season.
On April 9, Sooke’s Division 3 squad faced Juan de Fuca in the Frank Leversedge Cup final, with the locals losing 3-2.
This was another exciting matchup. JdF came out with the first goal then Sooke tied it up. Sooke got ahead again only to see the lead disappear again with JdF scoring.
Juan de Fuca scored a third goal late in the game and Sooke couldn’t match it by the final whistle.
“The Sooke Soccer Club is very proud of this team making it to the finals. It had been quite a few years since any of our ladies teams made it this far,” said president Laura Lockhart.
