The South Island Knights suffered the first loss of their debut season last Saturday, but came back to win a wild one the next day.

The senior AA hockey team played host to the North Island Capitals for a pair of games at Fuller Lake Arena last weekend, and lost the opener 6-4 before winning 10-8 on Sunday.

“I thought we deserved better Saturday night,” player/coach Jon Hollett said. “Things just didn’t go our way. Sunday was just gross. Nobody seemed to be awake on either team.”

Jamie Russell scored the Knights’ first and last goals on Saturday, with Kelyn Opel and Jordan Butcher also bulging the twine. Mattias Schmitt set up both of Russell’s goals, while Jordan Blundell, Jordan Clark and Brian Rideout also had assists.

With 10 goals scored on Sunday, there were a lot of points to go around. Clark, Aaron Spotts, Tanner Wiersma and Blair Murphy each had two goals and two helpers, and Blundell and Butcher also scored. Hollett had two assists, and Opel, Schmitt and Eric Philp had one apiece.

The Knights will visit the Powell River Regals this weekend. Their next home dates are scheduled for Dec. 17 and 18.
