Visting schools were unbeaten after Friday action in the eight-team Fulton Maroons Senior Girls Volleyball Tournament.
The AAAA South Kamloops Titans topped Pool A, while the A Kelowna Christian Knights ruled Pool B, both going 3-0.
Keith Becker’s VSS Panthers ended Day 1 in second place in Pool A by going 2-1. The Cats took South Kam to a third set before falling 15-11.
VSS brushed back the Valleyview Vikings of Kamloops in straight sets. The last game of the day was against Fulton and came from behind to overtake the Maroons 2-1 (15-12 in third set).
Playoffs went Saturday morning with the championship final set for the afternoon. Fulton played the Kalamalka Lakers (2-1 in Pool B), while VSS went up against the Sa-Hal Sabres of Kamloops (1-2 in Pool B) in the quarterfinals.
“Fulton is playing very strong, scrappy defence and attacking the ball very well,” said Maroons’ head coach Sharon Shaigec.
“Veteran power hitter Jacquie Banks is going up against a wall of blocks but is powering through with precise execution and kills when the Team really needs the points. Libero Jessica Houghton is confidently handling tough serves from the opposition and is controlling the back line on defence.
“Danielle Olson continues to quarterback the team as setter, running a varied smart attack pattern. Hana Ouchi continues to block and attack from the middle with intensity and numbing power, and Alana Young keeps showing confidence and maturity on the court with well-placed hits.”
