Sovereign skiers rock Teck races

The Sovereign Lake club rung up several medal finishes at the Teck B.C. Cup last weekend.

The Sovereign Lake club rung up several medal finishes at the Teck B.C. Cup last weekend at the Stake Lake Nordic Centre near Kamloops.

A total of 365 racers were greeted by beautiful blue skies and warm temperatures; which made the tough climbs and steep downhills more enjoyable.

Sovereign Lake had 29 skiers take to the trails Saturday for the interval start skate race. The Overlander Ski Club hosted.

Great results were posted and some athletes saw this as a breakthrough race in their season.

Atom Boys 0.9km: Dawson Bond, gold; Pee wee Boys 1.8km: Mitchell Bond, gold; Bantam Girls 2.5km: Zoe Plummer, fourth; Midget Boys 3.75km: Ian Oliphant, gold; Juvenile Boys (2) 5km: Matt Bull, fourth; Juvenile Boys (1) 5km: Carson Basset fourth; Juvenile Girls 5km: Hannah Mehain, gold; Michelle Metza, fifth; Masters Men 15km: Glenn Bond, gold; Olaf Plummer, bronze; Masters Women 15km: Jen Bond, gold; Sarah Purslow, silver; Mae Hooper, silver; Franziska Plummer, fourth.

Sunday was a mass start classic race on great tracks and Sovereign successes included: Atom Boys 0.9km: Dawson Bond, gold; Pee Wee Boys 1.8km: Mitchell Bond, gold; Midget Boys 3.75km: Ian Oliphant, silver; Juvenile Boys 7.5km: Matthew Bull, fourth; Juvenile Girls 5km: Hannah Mehain, gold; Emma Smedley, fourth; Masters 15km, Glenn and Jen Bond, gold; Sarah Purslow and Mae Hooper, silver.

The next event is the Nickel Plate Loppet and the Okanagan Teck Cup, Feb. 1-2, in Penticton.
