Graham Roxburgh can add another trophy to his collection after picking up his fourth Canada West coach of the year award.
The announcement came on Nov. 3.
“It is a nice award but it is a team award,” Roxburgh said. “I am flattered to win because there are some really good programs with good coaches out there.”
Now in his 18th season as head coach with the Trinity Western Spartans women’s soccer program, Roxburgh led the team to its first unbeaten regular season after they went 11-0-3, allowing a conference-low six goals.
And in the past six seasons, the team has lost a combined five Canada West regular season games and they are on a 27-match regular season undefeated streak. Including this year’s pre-season and playoffs, the Spartans are 15-0-5.
He was also named the Canada West coach of the year in 2009, 2011 and 2014 and in 2011 was named the CIS coach of the year.
Four players on his team — goalkeeper Ally Williamson, defender Amy Gartke and forward Seina Kashima —
were also named Canada West first team all-stars while Isabella Di Trocchio was a second team selection.
Williamson led all conference goalkeepers with a 0.42 goals against average, while allowing a Canada West-low five goals against and collecting a league-high eight clean sheets. Williamson has now been named a conference all-star four times, including First Team honours in 2013 and 2015 and a second team nod in 2011.
Kashima collected three goals and six assists in 13 games to earn her third consecutive conference all-star honour. In 2014, she was a First Team All-Star and in 2015, she was a Second Team All-Star.
For Gartke, this is the first time she has been named a conference all-star. She started all 14 games for TWU and, while also playing spot duty in the midfield, collected two goals.
Di Trocchio is also getting her first Canada West honour after she led the Spartans in scoring with eight goals and finished atop the conference with six game-winning goals.
The Spartans are hosting the Canada West championships and the team plays the Saskatchewan Huskies on Saturday afternoon.
The other semifinal features the MacEwan Griffins against the UBC Thunderbirds.
The Huskies beat the Victoria Vikes and UBC topped the Manitoba Bisons in Thursday’s quarter-finals.
The top three teams advance to the CIS national championships.
