Members of the Special Olympics Oceanside bocce team will travel to Salt Spring Island to take part in the Annual Special Olympics Invitational Bocce Tournament.
The team will leave Aug. 13 and will play in the tournament that will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This event has been much anticipated for the past eight years and is one that local athletes love to play in. The Oceanside team will be joined by teams from Campbell River, Port Alberni, Nanaimo and possibly Powell River.
While not a competition that hands out trophies, there are ribbons for the top three finishers. The results are highly contested as they are usually very close and involve a lot of measuring.
The athletes are always excited to compete out of town and look forward to seeing their friends and competitors from other teams.
