Rupert shines at swim meet
Prince Rupert swimmers were well-represented at the Prince George Medical Northern Sprint Invitational from Nov. 18-20.
The Rapids had 23 swimmers there, which made up approximately 30 per cent of the Points North team, consisting of swimmers from Rupert, Kitimat, Smithers and Terrace.
Points North won the event with 6,687.5 total points, just ahead of Prince George.
Several Rupert swimmers set personal times and a few picked up some medals.
Natalie DeMille, 11, won the bronze medal for most points scored in the 11 and under girls category. DeMille won the 50 backstroke and 100 freestyle events.
Fifteen-year-old Zach Dolan won the silver medal for aggregate winner for 15 and under boys. Dolan won the 50 and 200 freestyle, 50 and 100 backstroke and 50 fly.
Other swimmers who won events or set personal times include Isaac Dolan, Isaac Mastroinanni, Jakob Hall, Malcolm Dolan, Kobe Ikari, Josh Joubert, Amy Leighton, Jared McMeekin, Hyla McQuaid, Hannah Toye, Bailey Ward and Robert Warren.
Sr. volleyball girls at provincials
The last of the CHSS fall teams competing at provincials will be the senior girls volleyball team.
The team takes a 15-1 record to the test against tougher competition this week. Provincials is taking place in Abbotsford against the top 16 teams in the province.
Pool play will take place on Thursday and the playoffs will occur over Friday and Saturday. There will also be a team skills challenge and an awards ceremony.
Racquet centre wants new players
The Prince Rupert Racquet Centre is on the lookout for new players, whether racquetball or squash.
The centre is hosting a squash tournament on Dec. 27, which will be a fun and informal event. There will also be a larger tournament early next year, the 2nd annual Feel the Love squash tourney from Feb. 17-19.
Both tournaments are open to everyone, even if you’ve never played squash.
The racquet centre also has an opening for leasing the court, now that Red Shadow Boxing and Fitness has its own facility.
