Jeremy Kroot, 11, and Will McDonald, 13, were selected winners of the Ravensong Breakers swim club Golden Kickboard award after each set three personal bests at the Campbell River Killer Whales swim meet Jan. 27-28.
Ten swimmers competed in the Campbell River meet, one week after 32 swimmers took part in the club’s annual fundraising Swimathon.
Notable performances by both Jakob Mbobela, 13, and Lochlan Rogers, 11, involved both boys making the later stages of the ‘50 Freestyle Eliminator’ with Mbobela the runner-up in the final race.
The fastest male Swimathon (5km) finisher was Jack Confortin, 15, in 1:04:33 and the fastest female was Camryn Stannard, 12, in 1:07:16.

Nanaimo rink wins mixed seniors bonspiel
Michael Kenefick’s Nanaimo rink claimed top honours in Parksville Curling Club’s Senior Mixed bonspiel Jan. 27-29.
A full field of 20 teams drew players from Abbotsford, West Vancouver, New Westminster, Duncan/Mill Bay, Nanaimo, Port Alberni, Qualicum and Parksville.
After all the teams played two games on Friday, they were then seeded into the five events of four teams each. Each team then played three games within their event.
Winners were:
“A” Event: Team Kenefick, Nanaimo — Michael Kenefick, Teri Palynchuk, Bob Palynchuk and Elaine Cloutier;
“B” Event: Team Ainsley, Duncan/Mill Bay — Keith Ainsley, Susan Chepil, Dean Meikle, Sandra Colton;
“C” Event: Team Shearer, Nanaimo — Rick Dunn, Leslie Shearer, Doug Shearer, Gertie Pick;
“D” Event: Team Araki, New Westminster — Dennis Araki, Ann Weatherby, Merv Weatherby, Rita Araki; and
“E” Event: Team Ksyniuk, Parksville/Saskatchewan — Dale Ksyniuk, Laurie Ksyniuk, Ken McCormick, Lois McCormick.
A Draw to the Button contest was held, with Kenefick picking up another win. Parksville’s Team Dale/Reinsch was second and Qualicum’s Team Leney placed third.
