Tigers winterball starts in 2014
The South Okanagan Minor Baseball Association is beginning its winterball program Jan. 3 at the Community Centre. SOMBA is offering a midget and bantam program. There are two sessions as well as one mid-week session at a school gym. The winterball program runs through to spring break. During the sessions, players work on batting and pitching skills.
3-on-3 Winter Jam
A 3-on-3 winter jam basketball tournament will he held at the Penticton Community Centre on Dec. 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It’s the first annual winter jam put together by Pacific Sport Okanagan and the City of Penticton Recreation. Teams of up to four players, minimum three, of any skill level to participate. Divisions of co-ed under-13, u-18 and adult with play half-court games. The morning will be a round-robin guaranteeing each team at least four games, finishing off in the afternoon with a double-elimination playoff round. There is a sign up for some of the shooting/skill competitions with prizes to be won. Cost is $69/per team. Kripps earns two eighth-place results
Summerland’s Justin Kripps finished eight in Lake Placid, N.Y. during the Skeleton World Cup on Dec. 13. Kripps, racing with Toronto’s Tim Randall finished in 1:51.86 to match his career-best finish as pilot of the Canada 3 sled. The following day in Lake Placid, Kripps and Edmonton’s Bryan Barnett posted their second-straight eighth-place finish with a time of 1:51.13.
Penticton mogul skier finishes 16th in Finland
Penticton’s Andi Naude opened her mogul season with Canada in Ruka, Finland by placing 16th. Naude, an alumni of the Apex Freestyle Club, scored 21.63 on Dec. 14.
Penticton mens rec hockey action
Mark Petry’s two-goal effort helped lead the Hitmen to a 6-3 win against the Game Time Sports Wolverines. Also scoring for the Hitmen were Tim Truman, Joel Post, Marcus Lebler and Brett Van Riper. Chris Kerr led the Wolverines with two goals. Brent Mosses and Trevor Aubie scored twice to lead the EcoDry Ice Dogs to an 8-6 win against the Hitmen in Penticton men’s rec hockey action. Leading the Hitmen offense was Joel Post and Spencer Nowoselski with two goals each. Derek Grimm scored twice to lead the Game Time Sports Wolverines 7-3 over the Mule Broncos. Also scoring for the Wolverines was Nelson Bowman, Chris Kerr, Ryan MacMurchy, Joel Marte and Aric Stickney. Andrew Pond, Eric Cerutti and Jordan Moss scored for the Broncos.
