Dominion curling championship, Under-13 girls basketball, minor hockey and men's rec soccer highlighted

Penticton rink finishes sixth in Dominion championship

Blaine Black’s Penticton rink with Doug McCrae, Kim Dixon and Shaun Everest have won two of six games in the Dominion Curling Club Championship pool play. The Penticton rink, which finished sixth among seven teams in its pool, lost its last game 8-5 to Northern Ontario on Thursday. They opened the day with a 6-5 loss to New Brunswick. After taking a 1-0 lead in the first end, Northern Ontario took over with six points in the next five ends. Black’s team opened the championship with a 7-3 win over Manitoba and an 8-2 win against the Northwest Territories on Tuesday. On Wednesday, they lost 7-4 to Alberta and 8-2 to Yukon.

Shock and Mystic get wins in girls basketball league

In the Lakeside-Enamel Dental Centre Under-13 Girls basketball league, 10-point efforts by Grace Robinson and Vanessa Edis helped the Shock defeat Lynx 34-6. Emma Terris scored four points for the Lynx. The Mystic defeated the Storm 22-14. Sophie Byrdon led the Mystics with six points, while Mackenzie Dunham and Kayley Davies led the storm with four points. The league wraps up Sunday with the semifinal match-up: Mystic against Lynx and Storm versus Shock.  The winners will meet in the league championship.

Sherwood Trophy Vees dump West Kelowna

Two-goal efforts by Matthew Rempe and Kieran Mielke led the Sherwood Trophies Tier 2 Vees hockey team to a 7-3 win against the West Kelowna Warriors in league play. The Vees also received goals from Brenden Patton, Cam Davie and Ben Hoefler, while Daniel Martin led with three assists and Bevis Chou and Rempe collected two helpers each. Kaleb McEachern was in net.

Penticton Men’s rec soccer

In Penticton 45-plus men’s soccer action, TC Auto dumped Penticton Lock and Key 10-3. TC Auto Sales was led by Mike Weckel with three goals, while Peter Toth, Mark McKinlay and Gord McLaren each scored twice. Duarte Francisco scored the other goal. Vlado Zamecnik was the offence for Penticton Lock and Key.

Rona picked up its first win of the season against OK Awards Plus. They won 7-4 with Kevin Kothlow leading with a hat-trick. For OK Awards Plus, Darren Schimpf scored two. After four rounds of action, TC Auto Sales is 3-0-1, OK Awards Plus is 2-0-2 as is PE Lock and Key and Rona is 1-0-3.
