The Phoenix Coyotes announced Wednesday that they had signed goaltender Justin Pogge, to a one-year, two-way contract. In five AHL seasons with the Charlotte Checkers, Toronto Marlies, San Antonio Rampage and Albany River Rats, the 25-year-old, who played his minor hockey in Penticton played in 217 games posting a 106-81-20 record with eight shutouts, a 2.69 goals against average and a .909 save percentage.

Pentictonite inks minor pro contract

A tweet by Brian Wiebe of the Merritt Centennials stated that Penticton’s Dustin Johnson, a former Merrite Centennial, signed with Evansville Icemen in the Central Hockey League. The Icemen’s website has reported that Johnson inked a one-year contract agreement with general manager/coach Richard Kromm.

“Dustin is a young guy who has always carried with him the ability to score,” said Kromm on the Icemen website. “He is a proven goal-scorer who has a big shot and good size. Throughout his junior A career, and for that matter, wherever he has played he has possessed the knack of scoring goals. He will now be given a great chance to do this at the pro level.”

In 150 games in the BCHL, Johnson scored 72 goals and added 134 points along with 19 power play goals, seven game-winners and 217 penalty minutes. His most productive season in the BCHL was in 2009/10 when he scored  35 goals and 67 points in 52 games with the Centennials.

TDA dumps Expendables

In Penticton Men’s slo-pitch action, TDA doubled up the Expendables 12-6. Wayne O’Bee went three-for-three at the plate for TDA , while Jay Carey and Doug Goodwin shared the pitching win.
