Nickel Plate race teams performs well on B.C. Cup stage
The Nickel Plate Junior race team earned strong results during the B.C. Cup No. 1 at Callahan Valley last weekend. Walker Singleton in the peewee boys category (age 10) came in ninth in both the mass start skating on Saturday and the interval start classic on Sunday (2.5 km races). Ailie Hayman in the peewee girls (age 10) came in third on Saturday and second on Sunday (again both 2.5 km distances). Jessica Broder in the same peewee girls category came in seventh on Saturday and sixth on Sunday. Rachel Shanner in the midget girls category (born 1999) raced to a sixth in the 5-kilometre skate and a fifth place in the 5-km classic.
Men’s indoor soccer
TC Auto netted a 5-2 win against OK Awards in Penticton men’s indoor soccer action. Dave Crompton, Venna Veselka, Rob Lionello, Peter Toth and Henry Slizek for TC Auto, while Ken Horncastle, Mike Weckel for OK Awards. AM Surveying defeated RONA 2-1. Vlad Zamecnik and Darryl Pace scored for AM Surveying, while Dave Hewer scored the lone goal for RONA. AM Surveying leads the league with eight wins in 10 games, while TC Auto is second at 6-0-4, RONA third at 4-0-6 and OK Awards is 1-1-8.
Penticton men’s rec hockey
Dan Fraser’s hat trick helped the Bar One Argo Bisons whip the Hitmen 10-2. Jesse Van Troyen added two, while Ben Boudreau, Kyle Fraser, Jeremy Van Troyen, Brent Mosses and Kiel Gatenby scored as well. For the Hitmen, it was Brett Van Riper and Izzy Gudmundson scoring.
The Mule Broncos picked up a 4-1 win. Cody Devitt scored twice, while Jordan Moss and Eric Cerutti with the other two. Jeremy Van Troyen scored for the Bisons.
Jake MacDowall scored four goals to help the Peacock’s Perch Wolverines 7-4. Tyler Janzen, Jamie Britton and Dan Selles scored the other goals for the Wolverines. Dave Sandrelli, Mike Bezugley, Izzy Gudmundson, Kurtis Stuckey scored for the Hitmen.
Orange Tigers get rattled
In a novice showdown between the Penticton Tim Horton’s Orange Tigers and Red Rattlers, the Rattlers won 6-5. Ian Heck scored three, while Daniel Chandler, Trent Ashby and Harjas Bansoota rounded out the scoring. For the Orange Tigers, Keiran Roy scored twice, Ben Miller, Ethan Russell and Tyler Zoppi scored the others.
