Evans earns age group win

Penticton’s Tom Evans set the pace for men in the Olympic age group race during the Pushor Mitchell Apple Triathlon in Kelowna on Aug. 21, finishing in 1:58:21.

Senior men’s invitational

Ron Pugliese of Gallagher’s Canyon was the overall winner after a three hole playoff during the Summerland Senior Men’s Invitational held on Aug. 18. Dave Caldow of Sunset Ranch was tied with Pugleise with rounds of 73. Other winners were:  Overall low net, Rick Gotobed of Summerland taking the overall low net, Caldow the first division gross winner, Dave Marshall the first division net winner, Keith Reisman was the second division gross winner and Jim Bradshaw a second division net winner.

Provincial event funding

The province is contributing more than $295,000 to support 61 sporting events hosted in communities all over British Columbia during the coming months, announced Ida Chong, Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development. The lone event to receive funding in the South Okanagan was the Boston Pizza Junior Triathlon held July 16, which collected $2,500.

“I’m very happy to see so many different sports groups taking advantage of the Hosting B.C. program, which provides significant help to so many sporting events all across the province,” said Chong. “This demonstrates the importance of major sporting events to B.C. communities.”
