Hockey camp, slo pitch and golf in spotlight for sports briefs

Rockets camp

The Thompson-Okanagan female midget AAA Rockets team is having its tryout camp for the 2012-2013 season in Kelowna Aug. 10 to 12. For further information, interested players can contact head coach Mark Elder at eldarn@shaw.ca.

Men’s slo pitch

In Penticton men’s slo pitch action, TDA cruised past Brewski’s 19-1. Gutter Done Right Titans defeated the Best Damn Sluggers 19-10. The Titans also beat the Black Sox 21-15. Mark Ploner hit a three-run home run.

Ladies golf

Chelsea Cooper and Haley Cameron earned the low gross of 74 at Gallagher Canyon during the Summerland Golf Club two-lady action on July 23. First low net went to Kathy Brooks and Belinda Steckler at 63, from Mission Golden Eagle. Summerland’s Vi Ward and Vijai Vaagen earned a 63 for second low net, while Debbie Sticklemier and Sue Eden had 65 for third low net.

In Tuesday low gross/low net action on July 31, Val Eibner was the low gross at 86 in the first flight and Carol Mulligan shot 87.

Canadian golf championship

Summerland’s Rachelle Nielson missed the cut in round one of the Royale Cup Canadian Junior Girls championship in Calgary after going 30 over par. Holes five through nine hurt Nielsen as she tripled bogeyed on two holes and double bogeyed on two other holes.
