Mustangs open season with win

Princess Margaret’s junior girls basketball team opened its season by winning the Clarence Fulton tournament. The team defeated the host Maroons 41-24, Sahali from Kamloops 45-31 and in a close final beat Mt. Boucherie 37-33. Megan Blair was chosen a tournament all-star. Other team members include: Madison Winter, Shayla Hearne, Callan Cooper, Jacquelyn Ford, Amanda Van Os, Gillian Kennedy, Jessica Klar, Erin Gabriel, Kenzie Haberstock, Taylor Corrie, Zoe Jack and Sinclaire Lovett.

Midget Vees cruise past POE

The Ironman Canada midget Vees improved to 8-0-1 with a 10-0 win over the Program Of Excellence on Saturday. The Vees were led by Joel Marte’s five-goal effort, while Tyler Ehlers scored twice. Lawrence Langan earned the shutout. The Vees are home for three games this weekend. Friday night they face Westside at 7 p.m.,  then Rossland-Trail Saturday at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m. at Memorial Arena.

Streak ends for females

Penticton’s atom rec team put an end to the Canadian Tire peewee female team’s eight-game winning streak with a 6-4 decision. The Canadian Tire team received offence from Sage Collins, Cedar Carter, Sage Togyi and Morgan Brooks. Penticton’s atom rec OHA team enjoyed strong goaltending from Ayden Chura.

Penticton men’s rec hockey

Kyle Fraser scored a hat trick to help the Bar One Argo Bisons defeat the Best Damn Wings 9-5. The Bisons also received two-goal efforts from Jeremy Van Troyen and Sam Gill. Tom Gabriel scored twice for the wings.

Penticton Men’s Rec Hockey

The Mule Broncos defeated the Peacock’s Perch Wolverines 7-2. Taylor Cote scored a hat trick, while Andrew Pond scored twice to lead the Broncos to victory.

Mark Petry’s five-goal effort was enough to help the Hitmen demolish the Broncos 10-2. Dave Sandrelli added a hat trick for the Hitmen.

Kiel Gatenby and Ben Boudreau scored twice to lead the Bisons past the Wolverines 7-5. Scoring for the Wolverines were Aric Stickney and Ryan Sjoberg with two goals each.
