Parksville teen Aiden Goodfellow finished in a 14th-place tie in the 2016 B.C. Junior Boys’ Golf Championship after shooting a 3-over-par 75 in the final round Friday at Arbutus Ridge Golf Club in Cobble Hill.
Tristan Mandur of Mill Bay parlayed his home-course advantage at Arbutus into a 1-under-par 279, goof for a one stroke victory over A.J. Ewart of Coquitlam.
Goodfellow, who is scheduled to compete in the 114th B.C. Amateur Championship beginning today at Pheasant Glen Golf Resort, finished at 289, ten strokes off the lead. He sat in a third-place tie after an opening-round 68, then sandwiched a pair of 73’s around a 4-over-par 75 in Thursday’s third round.
Port Alberni’s Spencer Rhodes, another product of the Pheasant Glen Golf Academy, finished at 302, in a 46th-place tie.

Radcliffe 16th in women’s amateur
Megan Radcliffe of Bowser, who just completed grade 11 at Kwalikum Secondary School, finished in 16th place with a 72-hole total of 304 in the 2016 B.C. Women’s Amateur golf tournament Friday at Beach Grove Golf Club in Tsawwassen.
Jisoo Keel of Coquitlam ran away with the title, shooting an 8-under-par 280 to finish six strokes ahead of runner-up Mary Parsons of Delta.
Radcliffe finished +16 for the tourney, half of which came when she struggled to an 8-over-par 80 in Thursday’s third round. She bounced back with a 74 in Friday’s final round, matching her best round of the tourney.
Josee Deslauriers of Parksville and Michelle Waters of Qualicum Beach also entered the tourney, but narrowly missed the cut after Wednesday’s second round.

Gold Medals Go South
Local lawn bowlers made a strong showing in last week’s B.C. Provincial Senior Women’s Triples Tournament, but not quite strong enough to advance to the national championship tournament.
The provincial tourney was hosted by Parksville Lawn Bowling Club, and a regional team made up of Parksville’s Chris Fereday, Qualicum Beach bowler Lynn Chwartacki and Nanaimo’s Mary Mulligan reached the championship final. But the trophy — and a trip to the Canadian Senior Triples finals in Halifax next month went to the White Rock-based trio of Mary Wright, Anne VanBastlaere and Ann Mathie.
Parksville Lawn Bowling Club members Sandra Mitchell, Lynn Britz and Jan MacNaughton claimed the bronze in the two-day provincial tourney.
Next up on the local lawn bowling schedule, Parksville hosts the Royal Canadian Legion Mt. Arrowsmith Branch Open Men’s and Women’s Triples Tournament July 23-24. Spectators are always welcome. The club is located at 149 E. Stanford.
