Pinnacles girls soccer team scores win, while Smokin' Aces return to their winning ways

Pinnacles girls score win

The under-13 Pinnacle girls soccer team defeated Kelowna United 5 –2 over this past weekend. Scorers were Savannah Seaman, Azayla Klippenstein and Lyndsey Caron with one goal each and Sara Vriends scoring two.  Brooke Planedin played strong on the forward line and Jean Grakul and Breanna George were outstanding on defense.

Aces back on track

In D division slo pitch action, the Smokin’ Aces earned an 18-14 win against the Flushers. The Smokin Aces started the season winning their first eight games, then suffered a tough loss to the Keystone Crushers 14-7. With the win, the Smokin Aces are 9-1-0. In B division slo pitch, Konanz Chiropractic and T.W.T Wise Guys settled for a 6-6 tie.

Heated Boston Marathon

Kathy Leahy and Ellis Andrews, members of the Penticton Pounders, ran the Boston Marathon in the hottest conditions in the 116-year history of the race. They completed the 42.2- kilometre run where temperatures reached 33C on the course and 31C at the finish line. Race officials allowed 4,300 entrants to pull out of this years race and defer their entry to 2013 due to the expected very hot temperatures predicted during the race. Close to 22,000 started the race, but 2,500 of those sought medical attention and over 150 went to the hospital, 10 in critical condition. All were expected to survive. Leahy and Ellis completed the race without needing medical attention.

Flames win one at Ice Breaker

The South Okanagan Flames went 1-2 in the Ice Breaker lacrosse tournament hosted by Armstrong. The Flames opened with a 10-7 win against Vernon. Jean-Luc Chetner led the Flames attack with five goals. Also scoring were Quinn Ramsay, Josh Greenwood with two goals each and one by Derek Grimm. Kaid Macleod and Mitch Walton led with three assists. During an 11-9 loss to the Kamloops Venom, Grimm led the Flames with three goals, while Chetner had two and added three assists. In their other loss to the Kelowna Raiders (15-9), Grimm led the Flames with three goals and five points. Macleod also had five points with four assists. The Flames next home game is May 27 when they host the Armstrong Shamrocks.
