Lakers Sr. girls volleyball fall short in Wild Card
The Pen High Lakers senior girls volleyball team won one of three matches in the Wild Card tournament, falling short of advancing to the 4A provincial championships. The Lakers, who placed ninth in last year’s provincial championship, lost 2-1 to Van Tech and 2-0 to Dover Bay. They defeated Riverside 2-0. Lakers co-coach Rob Gunning said there were many good teams there.
“Our girls fought hard but we just came up a little short in the end,” said Gunning. “Overall, it was a good season. A lot of good teams around the province. We were competitive all year, but that wildcard tournament is tough to get through.”
Steam host Knights on Saturday 
The Summerland Steam (16 wins, six loss and two overtime losses ) open their weekend action in the Kootenay Junior International Hockey League with a road trip to Armstrong to take on the North Okanagan Knights at the Nor-Val Centre. The Steam then return home to host the Kelowna Cheifs (14 wins, eight losses, one tie and one OT loss as of Dec.1) at the Summerland Arena at 7:30 p.m. The Steam closed out November with a 5-2 loss to the Osoyoos Coyotes at the Osoyoos Sun Bowl. Cole Williams and Ben Dietrich-Scammel scored for the Steam, while goalie Matt Huber made 43 saves in the loss.
Teams share top spot in dart league
The Hand Grenades and Roll’n Stones share top spot in the Penticton and District Dart Association League with 68 points. The Hand Grenades scored six points Monday, while Roll’n Stones hit for seven. In third, with 60 points, are the Anaf Smokin Aces, who scored five. Clancy’s Snipers are fourth with 59 points after scoring two. In fifth are the Elks No.1 with 58 points after scoring six. Doug Spears scored 155 for the mens high score, while Karen Franz hit 160. In high outs, Doug Belanger picked up 153 points and Cheryl McComb 98.
South Okanagan Inter-City Curling League 
The first Summerland curling game in the new South Okanagan Inter-City Curling League was played this Sunday. Penticton boys won 6-5 against Summerland, while the Summerland girls won 6-1 over Penticton, and a make-up team with two coaches were given a good run by Oliver girls 8-4. Games are played every second Sunday in Summerland, Penticton, Oliver or Osoyoos.
Summerland curling next event is the Stick Spiel on Dec. 10. These are two person games, one hour each. So far we have 10 teams. Still room to sign up by calling the curling club at 250-494-9322, if we aren’t in, leave your name and phone number.
Bad Tattoo Brewery Masters Indoor Soccer
Three-goal efforts by Jon Padgett and Dave Crompton led Harvey-Lister-Webb to an 8-7 shootout victory over Penticton Lock and Key in Bad Tattoo Brewery Masters Indoor Soccer League action Sunday. Norman Peters led PLK with two goals. Reid Jenkins and Ray Evans scored their first goals of the season for HLW. The win improves HLW to three wins, one loss and one shootout win in five games. PLK now has two wins, two losses and a shootout loss.
Rona improved to 2-3-0 with a 9-6 win over TC Auto Sales. Rona was led by Ron Dirksen and Joe Kandola, who scored a pair of goals. Brian Johnston netted a hat-trick, while Mike Beliveau added a pair for TC Auto Sales. Don Russell of Rona and Ernie Kish of TC, scored their first goals of the season. TC Auto Sales is now 2-3-0 on the season. Zico Pescada leads the league with six goals and 18 points. Padgett is close behind in second with 10 goals and 16 points after five rounds.
