Park team wins senior men’s golf
Ninety-six players played in Penticton Senior men’s golf on April 9. Myong Park, Neil Mackie, Dave Wallace John Perry won with a score of 118, while second went to Len Swift, Sid Perrot, John Longstreet and Gary Wilson, shooting 120.
Faraday fires 30 for the win
Brigitta Faraday fired a 30 to take the count putts format during ladies golf at the Penticton Golf and Country club Tuesday. Following Faraday was Doreen Bobbitt at 31, Janice Clary and Marleen Tymofevich shooting 32. In the handicap of 24 to 37, Susan Long fired a 29, while Jan Bullock and Trish Disbrisay had 32, while Elaine Vonck and Sharon Paulsen tied with 33.
3-on-3 hockey tournament
Hockey players in the novice level had a blast during a 3-on-3 hockey tournament held in Penticton last Sunday. The tournament for kids born in 2005 and 2006 featured 45 minute games with line changes every 90 seconds. Along with Penticton, there was two teams from West Kelowna and one from Kelowna. The tournament was described as being high-tempo with plenty of offence.
“It went really well,” said Trevor Aubie, coach of the Penticton team that earned a win and tie in four games. “The kids had a lot of fun. It’s a great format. The kids enjoyed having those games.
Aubie said the players seemed to enjoy the more offensive style of format with open ice. He added it encouraged more opportunities for kids to play and allowed those who may not normally get a lot of scoring chances to enjoy the thrill of scoring.
Okanagan Hoops sink Vikings
The Okanagan Hoops under-13 girls basketball team played its first game in the Grade 8 division of the Kelowna Minior Basketball Association’s Legend’s League, winning 52-39. The Hoops attack was led by Kayley Davies and Liev Elder with 16 and 15 points respectively. Davies also added five steals.
“Liev played her best game to date,” said Hoops coach Chris Terris. “She was aggressive at both ends of the floor. A big part of this game is being able to react quickly to opportunities to attack the hoop. It seems like Liev might have turned a corner in that regard.”
Terris liked their start with only a couple practices to prepare. Last season they were winless in the age group. Also scoring for the Hoops was Emma Terris and Olivia Devito with five points, while Kalli Doell added four.
Gartrell sinks 42 points in stableford action
Summerland Golf and Country Ladies club action hit the greens for the 2014 season on April 8. Pat Gartrell won the stableford format with 42 points. Tied for second was Lynne Karaim and Diana Leith with 39 points. Tied for third was Ruth Daviduk and Betsy McAndrew with 38 points. Prizes were awarded to the top five players.
Oliver 10-K run
The Oliver Parks & Recreation Department is hosting the fifth race in the Interior Road Race Series with a 10-kilometre event on April 13 at 10 a.m.
The race starts near the Oliver Community Centre and finishes at 36003-79th St. The Interior Running Association looks forward to seeing last year’s male and female winners Hans Aabye and Stacey Cleveland return to defend their title. Runners can register online at www.zone4.ca until 6 p.m. April 12 or on race day.
Race registration until race day is $20 for under 19 and $25 for 19 and older. Add $10.00 for race day entry. Eleven races make up the Interior Road Race Series.
This event will be followed by Penticton’s Blossom 10-km on May 11, Kamloop’s Blackwell Dairy 15-km on May 25, Peachland’s Beach Run 10-km on July 1, Kelowna’s Midsummer 8-km on July 6, Kamloop’s Half Marathon on July 27 and Kelowna’s Peak to Beak 18-km on September 21.
