Sports in brief: Bruce, Flanagan named athletes of the week

Volleyball players Kayla Bruce and Aaron Flanagan have been named the University of the Fraser Valley athletes of the week.

Flanagan led the Cascades men’s volleyball team to a pair of victories over Vancouver Island University and Camosun, racking up 38 kills and 12 digs to help UFV get back into the playoff picture at 4-5.

Bruce led the Cascades to their fourth victory of the season against Camosun, posting six kills,10 digs and four blocks in the victory.

FOOTBALL FUNCTION

The Fraser Valley Touch Football League is holding its annual general meeting on Sunday, Jan. 30 at 12 p.m. at Finnegan’s Pub.

RUNNING CLINICS

PacificSport is holding its annual InTraining clinic series in Abbotsford, designed to help people improve their fitness for a 10-kilometre walk/run.

The InTraining clinics provide a 13-week plan with three different programs for walkers and runners of all abilities.

Abbotsford’s clinics run on Tuesday nights, with participants meeting at 6:30 p.m. at Matsqui Recreation Centre.
