Rainmakers Rankings
Thanks to continued strong play of late, the boys Rainmakers are attracting the attention of the powers that be.
BC Hoop Scoop released its regular rankings on Jan. 18. The junior boys moved into ninth place in the province, thanks to a perfect 12-0 record so far this season.
The senior Rainmakers also saw a rise, from honourable mention to seventh place. This is likely due to the strong showing at the Air Show in Pitt Meadows a weekend previous, when Rupert won the tournament for the first time, beating highly-ranked teams in the process.
Senior girls cruise
The senior girls Rainmakers also had a strong weekend in Terrace.
Playing against Hazelton, the girls led 30-6 at the half enroute to a 70-16 bruising. Ruby Mason led the team with 23 points, and another 22 by Suttira Johansen. Carly Cochrane also scored 16.
The girls’ second game was much closer, but resulted in another win, 48-32 over the Caledonia Kermodes. High scorers were Cochrane with 20 and Mason with 10.
Only eight players made the trip due to colds and one of the girls with colds still made the trip and played some minutes.
“It was inspiring to see them all work together and support each other,” coach Anna Ashley said.
The girls travel to Vancouver for the York House Big Kahuna tournament from Feb. 2-4.
Learn to Run
The Rupert Runners is once again hosting a Learn to Run program, starting on Feb. 14.
Called a couch-to-10km program, it runs three times a week, meeting at the Charles Hays Secondary School track on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:15 p.m. and Sundays at 10 a.m.
Information sessions will be held at the library on Feb. 8 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 12 at 1:30 p.m.
