Rampage to play exhibition game
The Rupert Rampage will attempt to shake off the rust on Sept. 24 when they host the CIHL champions, the Terrace River Kings, in an exhibition game. The puck will drop at 7 p.m.
“We don’t have too much of a change from last year, except for the addition of a veteran player coming back and losing a few veterans,” said team president Ron German.
The team does have four rookies playing with them, but they may not end up playing the exhibition game, said German.
All the funds from the game will go to a local health care facility in memory of Frank Pyde, who was the co-founder and former coach of the Rampage. German said everyone is volunteering for the game, including referees and security.
Snooker League wants players
The Prince Rupert Legion Snooker League is looking for more players or complete teams for the upcoming season.
The league will resume again in October. Tobbi Gjelsvik said the league has been receiving a lot of interest and already has around 60 players currently registered to play, but more are expected.
Gjelsvik encourages players of any calibre, experienced or new, to join. He added some members of the league are considering going to watch some of the greats play at the World Snooker Championship in Sheffield, England in April.

Local KidSport chapter
A KidSport chapter could be coming to Prince Rupert in the near future. A provincial representative will be visiting Rupert in the fall to present the process of how erecting a local KidSport chapter would work. Volunteers from local sports organizations and parents will be among those who will attend the presentation.
“The goal is for the local chapter to be self-sufficient in under two years. In the interim, I’ll be closely involved to ensure that the chapter can gain traction so we’re sustainable long-term,” said Willa Thorpe, director of recreation.
KidSport is a national not-for-profit organization that provides financial assistance for registration fees and equipment to kids aged 18 and under.
