Sprint cars bring the speed to Saratoga

Wilroc Lite sprint cars make first appearance of the season at Black Creek speedway

Speed was the word the night Saturday as the Wilroc Lite Sprint cars made their return to Saratoga Speedway in Black Creek.

The fastest cars on Vancouver Island visited with a track record 17 cars, to join a full pit of I.M.C.A Modifieds, Dwarf cars and the Bomber cars, with Brian McLean Chevrolet sponsoring the night.

The 17 sprint cars were supported by strong car counts in our other fields, including 11 Dwarf cars, 11 modifieds and five bomber cars.

Each class had one dash with wins going to Boston Larson, Mike Meeres, Dano Bryant and Mark Stuart.

Heat race action saw Boston Larson double up in the Bomber class and Meeres adding to his trophy dash victory in the Dwarf car class. Chris Beaulieu took the Modified division heat, and Ryan Orchard Guy Barrett split the two Sprint car heats.

The Bomber main event saw Larson and Giles Cyr battle hard for all 20 laps, with Cyr getting the edge on Larson on lap 12 and holding off Larson to take home the win.

The Dwarf cars also got 20 laps for their feature race which saw Meeres once again dominate the field, grabbing the lead on lap seven and not looking back to complete the clean sweep in a borrowed race car.

In a very competitive 25-lap Modified main event, Bryant and Beaulieu found themselves in a hard-fought battle for the lead, but Beaulieu managed to jump ahead on lap 14 and pulled away from there. Beaulieu’s third main event win of the year propelling him back into the season points lead.

For the 25-lap Wilroc Lite main event; 16 cars lined up and a very tight battle ensued between several cars to start the race.

Barrett started on the pole and pulled away from the field early, with the real battle taking place between Parkinson, Stuart and Emmerson for second, third, and fourth. Parkinson managing to hold off Stuart for second, giving Stuart third place as Barrett went wire-to-wire, leading all 25 laps to take home the win.

Extra laps …The crowd favourite Crash to Pass Boat race returns next weekend as Saratoga presents Eve of Destruction for the very first time. An amazing car stunt jump will also take place, as Alex Benyuk, better known as the crazy Dane, will jump his black F150 into a stack of three Mini vans at over 80 miles per hour. Accompanying the night of carnage will be the Hornets, Crash to Pass cars and the Roadrunners. Courtenay Kia sponsors the night of fun.
