The Alberni Valley Bulldogs must be glad that Evan Tironese decided to return to the B.C. Hockey League team this year.
Tironese scored 11 points in three games last weekend as the Bulldogs swept a home-and-home with Cowichan Capitals (7–3 on Friday and 8–1 on Saturday) but lost 5–4 to Prince George Spruce Kings at home.
Tironese scored two goals and two assists Friday, had four assists on the road in Cowichan on Saturday and three more assists at home on Sunday.
The loss to Prince George on Sunday snapped a four-game winning streak for the ‘Dogs, who are 6–5 in regular season play—good for second place in the BCHL Island Division (tied with Victoria).
The Bulldogs are second in the BCHL for power play goals (tied with Prince George) with 16, according to the coaching staff (Coquitlam has 20 to lead the league).
The Bulldogs can boast of being the only team in the league to have scored at least one power play goal in every regular season game, too.
ICE CHIPS…This Friday is Walking Dead night at the Bulldogs’ game, when Cowichan returns for a 7 p.m. puck drop. Dress up in costume and you might win a prize…Kurt Gosselin and Scott Cooke are both day to day with upper body injuries. Fans haven’t seen Cooke play at home yet.
