Fresh off a squash tournament victory in Revelstoke, Xavier Roepcke looks forward to his next challenge.
This weekend Roepcke heads to Vancouver for his first provincial competition in the B.C. Junior Open at Jericho.
“I’m kind of excited. Playing all the higher calibre players, like top 10, top 15,” he said.
While competing against the best, Roepcke hopes to gain more experience and learn how they play. After winning the championship in Revelstoke in three straight matches, Roepcke learned that he needs to maintain focus. Playing against familiar competition, he liked how he played, but hit some bumps along the way.
Roepcke has also been learning from being on Team Interior. He’s soaking up all the training time and exercise. Roepcke, who won a local tournament at the Penticton Racquet and Fitness Club last May, loves how squash is individual-based and that you can hit the ball anywhere. In the year that he has been playing, his serve and forehand have improved.
