Football teams in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows are all in playoff mode, and all are winning.
The Grade 8 teams from Samuel Robertson Technical and Pitt Meadows secondary will meet in a semi-final game on Tuesday at SRT.
Pitt Meadows got past a tough Abbotsford Middle team with a 24-18 win on Monday.
Abby had beaten the Marauders handily, by a score of score of 44-6, on Oct. 17.
The SRT Titans won their way into the semi-final by beating Hatzic Middle 44-22 on Monday. They got a great performance from quarterback Adam Jones, who threw four touchdown passes, including two to Billy Williamson. It’s rare to see that much throwing at the Grade 8 level. Keanyn Hamilton and Parker Hansen also found the end zone.
The team also got a running touchdown from tailback Mason Hebert.
The defence was anchored by middle linebacker Kale Cawley and centre Linden Peel, while Carson Hiebert played a tough defensive end.
The last time the two local teams met, SRT won 30-0, but coach Mike Jones expects Pitt to have improved a lot – particularly considering their win over Abby.
“It’s always a different game,” he said. “They’ve gotten better and better.”
He said the Titans are excited to host a playoff game, and with a 2 p.m. start time “they should enjoy an extra bit of atmosphere,” from the home fans.
• The Pitt Meadows seniors host a playoff game against Spectrum on Monday, and a win there will put them in BC Place Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 26.
• At the junior varsity level, the Titans romped to a 54-6 win over Westsyde in their first playoff win on Wednesday. They will now face Seaquam on Nov. 23, at a venue to be determined.
