Following a 6-5 overtime, season-opening road victory Saturday against the Quesnel Kangaroos, the Williams Lake Stampeders will play its first game of the season in the lakecity this Sunday.
The Stampeders will host the Smithers Steelheads, beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex where they’ll be looking for some revenge after Smithers eliminated Williams Lake last March in two straight games in the Central Interior Hockey League playoff championship.
In Quesnel, Nathan Zurak provided the heroics, scoring the overtime winner just three minutes into the extra frame. He also notched the opening marker for the Stamps just one minute into the contest.
Other scorers for Williams Lake were Kurtis Bond (2), Jassi Sangha and Tye Moses.
Stampeders’ netminder Justin Foote picked up the win in goal stopping 47 of 52 shots.
