After a career-best weekend, Trinity Western University women’s volleyball left side Sophie Carpentier was named the Canada West First Star of the Week, while Spartans men’s volleyball outside Blake Scheerhoorn was named the Third Star of the Week.
Carpentier was a hitting machine over the weekend for the Spartans, registering 43 combined kills against Winnipeg, including a career-high 24 on Saturday night, which was just one shy of tying the Trinity Western single-game record, helping the Spartans sweep the Winnipeg Wesmen.
In Friday’s match Carpentier had 19 kills, 20 points, six digs and one ace in a 3-0 win.
In Saturday’s weekend finale the outside hitter amassed 24 kills, 27 points and two blocks in a 3-1 win over the Wesmen.
Carpentier is currently second in Canada West in kills per set with 4.77, third in hitting percentage at .388, second in points per set at 5.4 and third in total points with 70.5
Trinity Western will look to extend their winning streak (4-0) as they head to Saskatchewan this weekend for two matches against the Huskies.
On the men’s side, Scheerhoorn earned the third star honour after collecting 40 kills and hitting .606 over the course of a two-match weekend sweep of Winnipeg.
