Stealth on the rebound on home court in Langley

In their pre-game report, the Langley-based Vancouver Stealth talk about their need and desire to win Friday.

  • Mar. 30, 2017 11:00 a.m.

The Vancouver Stealth (5-8) host the Toronto Rock (8-5) inside the Langley Events Centre on Friday, March 31, at 7:30 p.m.

This is the only time in the 2017 regular season that the Stealth play a home-and-home against the same team. After last weekend’s 13-7 loss, Vancouver has a quick turnaround to focus on Friday’s efforts.

“It is not often you get a chance to redeem yourself that soon after a loss. This is an opportunity for us to do everything possible to ensure we are ready for Friday night,” said Stealth player Joel McCready.

“This league is so good and the playoff race is so tight that every game is extremely important,” he said.

If the Stealth are going to be successful against their challenger, they will need their goaltending to be on par with the Rock’s. Nick Rose currently has the best goals against average in the NLL at 9.64 and is second in the league with a .794 save percentage.

Not far behind is Vancouver’s Tye Belanger who is fifth in the league in goals against and second with a .792 save percentage.

“We need to start playing with more urgency in our game,” said  Belanger. “With the playoffs just weeks away, it is time to be playing the best lacrosse of our season.”

Tom Schreiber is the lone member of the Rock in the top 10 in NLL scoring.

In 13 games, he has 20 goals, 46 assists and 66 points.

Meanwhile, Corey Small continues his impressive season.

Heading into Week 14 action he is tied for the top spot in the league’s scoring race with 82 points. Last year, he set a career high with 84 points, which he is looking to shatter with five games left in the regular season.

Friday night is student night inside the Langley Events Centre, where anyone with a valid student ID will get 40 per cent off bowl seating. Tickets are available at the Langley Events Centre Box Office at 604-882-8800, or Ticket Rocket.co.
