It was a tough night for the Kelowna Chiefs who were defeated 10-4 by the visiting Summerland Steam Sunday in Game 3 of their first-round KIJHL playoff series.
The Steam now lead the series 2-1.
Summerland took control of the game right from the beginning, scoring two goals in the first period. In the second, Kelowna attempted a comeback with a goal from Nick Josephs but it was all downhill from there.
The Steam went on to score five goals in the period and it wasn’t until the 2:49 mark that Josephs added his second of the night on a power play.
Braeden Cyra added a shorthanded goal in the third followed by a power play goal from Kevin Roth but it was too little too late.
Summerland added three more goals, all on the power play, to win the game 10-4. Paulsen Lautard had a hat-trick for the Steam while Josephs had a four point game with two goals and two assists.
Penalties took their toll on the Chiefs as Summerland scored four of their goals with the man-advantage. In total, Kelowna spent 34 minutes in the penalty box, compared to just 16 minutes by the Steam.
Chris Turner and Brady Lenardon split the loss between the pipes.
Game four of this series will be held at Rutland Arena on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
