Steam slowed by five-game skid

Summerland Steam has tough weekend in Kootenay International Junior Hockey League play

After three tough losses to start the post-holiday schedule, the Summerland Steam came into this weekend’s games looking to get back on track. Instead, they find that losing streak extended to five after losses to the Sicamous Eagles and Princeton Posse. On Friday, the Steam found themselves fighting the puck early and pushed for a late comeback effort but ultimately fell 4-3 to the Eagles. Adam Jones, Cole Woodliffe and Nick Gnazdowsky tallied for the Steam. while Nathan Grieve, Bradley Whitehead, Nathan Plessis and Korwin Shewchuk scored for the Eagles. Spencer Huff made 17 saves in the loss.

After having Saturday night off, the Steam travelled through the snow on Sunday afternoon to play the Posse. They took the pace to the Posse for most of the game and fired 33 shots on goal, but came up on the short end of a 3-2 final. Jack Mills tallied twice on the power play for Summerland while Connor Sloan netted the winner late in the third for Princeton. Brandon Workun and Eden Dubchak also scored for Princeton while Stephen Heslop made 31 saves for the win. Spencer Huff made 22 saves in the loss.

On Sunday, the Steam announced via Twitter that former captain Daylan Robertson, a Penticton native and product of the Okanagan Hockey Academy, will rejoin the team for the remainder of the season. Robertson will wear 15 and return to the lineup next weekend when the Steam visit Chase on Saturday and host the North Okanagan Knights Sunday evening at 5:30 p.m.
