Steelers players in provincial win

Instrumental in helping the Vancouver Island All Star football team win the Provincial Legacy Games

Two Ladysmith Steelers players were instrumental in helping the Vancouver Island All Star football team win the Provincial Legacy Games Peewee match against the best from the Mainland.

Dustin Seymour, playing right guard, remembers the key play when he drove his opponent back, opening a big hole in the defensive line. “I pushed the centre five yards out so the running back could get through,” he said.

That led to a touchdown, the only TD of the game played during the Kamloops Legacy Performance Games July 23-24. It was enough to give the Vancouver Island All Stars their 8-0 win.

Seymour, number 50 in the Island lineup, and a Ladysmith Steelers teammate Ryker Pearson, number 21, had three interceptions and three sacks between the two of them, making their’s a huge contribution to the outcome.

The two were picked for a Legacy tournament team, which was made up of Vancouver Island players from Victoria to Campbell River.

Seymour plays both ways for the Steelers, as guard on the offensive line and tackle on defence. His and Pearson’s contribution to the Steelers was recognized in their selection for the Legacy match’s Vancouver Island squad.

This is Seymour’s fourth season, and he’s already practicing for his fifth.
