The annual Steve Nash Skills Competition for Thunderball Basketball was held Wednesday, May 14 at G.P. Vanier.
Thunderball participants were in full force at the gym, testing themselves against others in their age category from the popular Sunday morning league. There were seven skill events, similar to what the NBA does on All-Star Weekend, and over 70 players participated.
Lots of cheering was happening as well from the stands where 60 parents were motivating the beginning basketballers. The players who were champions in the various categories are as follows:
Speed Dribble Champions
Grade 4/5 Boys – Kaie Topaski; Grade 4/5 Girls – Ashlin Speed; Grade 6/7 Girls – Zoe Brown; Grade 6/7 Boys – Jordan Dennis.
Weave Dribble Champions
Grade 4/5 Boys – Logan Bell; Grade 4/5 Girls – Ashlin Speed; Grade 6/7 Girls – Madeline Fale; Grade 6/7 Boys – Cedar Lloyd.
Wall Pass Champions
4/5 Boys – Ryan Bull; 4/5 Girls – Brielle Speed; 6/7 Girls – Zoe Brown; 6/7 Boys – Jordan Dennis.
Regular Free Throw Champions
4/5 Boys – Theo Fali; 4/5 Girls – Brielle Speed; 6/7 Girls – Emily Lefebvre and Madeline Fale (tie); 6/7 Boys – Hayden Fieret and Jordan Dennis (tie).

The Team Ball Tag competition between the coaches and the league participants was won by the coaches.
