The Cranbrook Lacrosse Association is set to kick off its 2015 season with the Kootenay Box Lacrosse Festival Sunday, May 3 at the Kinsmen Arena and Memorial Arena.
“It’s a great way to continue the development of lacrosse in the Kootenays,” said Cranbrook Outlaws coach Russ Sheppard. “Lacrosse is the perfect off-season sport for hockey and, based on its current growth, is on its way to becoming very popular in the region.”
The Outlaws are set to host teams from the West Kootenay and Elk Valley, with youth aged eight to 16 in action across novice, peewee, bantam and midget divisions.
The all-day tournament begins at 10:30 a.m. Sunday morning and runs through the final tilt of the day, which features the Bantam Outlaws taking on Elk Valley at 4:30 p.m. at the Memorial Arena.
In addition to the all-day lacrosse festivities, there will be a barbecue on-site all day, with food available by donation.
Following this weekend’s home festival, all ages of Outlaws will travel to Red Deer, Alta., May 15 to 18 for the 24th annual Red Deer Tradition Lives Lacrosse Tournament.
