The Revelstoke Grizzlies fell victim to the Kamloops Storm, losing 4-2 at the Forum on Tuesday.
Spencer Samuel put the Grizzlies on the board first with a power play goal midway through the first period. The Storm responded with power play goals of their own from Josh Rasmussen and Ryan Skinner less than 40 seconds apart.
Brett Watkinson made it 3-1 Kamloops with 35 seconds to go in the first period.
The Grizzlies had several power play opportunities in the first half of the second period but failed to capitalize. Rasmussen made it 4-1 Kamloops with 3:41 left in the frame when he beat goaltender Conrad McMillan with a wrist shot to the high glove side. McMillan was replaced by Aaron Brandoli after the goal after giving up four goals on 18 shots.
The Grizzlies had several chances to make the game close in the third period but some undisciplined penalties and strong goaltending by Marcus Beesley of the Storm prevented Revelstoke from scoring.
It didn’t help that Samuel, who was one of the Grizzlies biggest threats on offence, got kicked out of the game after picking a fight with Rourke O’Briain, who had tripped him seconds before. Samuel was given an extra four minutes for instigating and unsportsmanlike conduct.
Austin Donaldson scored Revelstoke’s second goal on an easy tap in after being set up by Dylan Ossman.
The Grizzlies take on the Kelowna Chiefs this Friday, Sept. 28, at the Revelstoke Forum. The game is Revelstoke Mountain Resort day and one lucky ticket holder will go home with a season’s pass.
