Storm reigns over B.C. soccer

Qualicum Beach players help Upper Island U14 girls team to title in first appearance at provincial championships

In their first trip to the B.C. Provincial A soccer championships, Catalina Magana and Olivia Williams emerged as champions, as the U14 Upper Island Storm girls team ran the table on its season with a victory in the championship game July 10.

The two girls, students at Kwalikum Secondary and members of the Kondors senior girls soccer team as Grade 8 students this spring, were part of the North Island squad that won the Vancouver Island U14 title with an undefeated season, then went on to claim the Coastal A Cup before moving on to the provincials.

Erin Jensen of Nanaimo scored in the final two minutes as the Storm topped North Shore SC 1-0 in the final at Burnaby Lake West fields.

The 15-member Storm team is made up of players from across the mid Island, and competes in the Vancouver Island Premier League.
