Storm too much for Ravens

Crew wins two, Law also victorious in CWFL

The Winter Trucking Storm put a freeze on the Ravens with a 38-12 win in the Cowichan Women’s Football League last Sunday.

Kristen Labao put up 13 points in the first quarter and Caitlin Evans added six of her own before the Ravens were even able to get on the scoreboard.

After allowing a couple of responses by the Ravens, the Storm clammed the door shut again, getting two more touchdowns from Evans in the second half and one from Labao, who added a conversion. Evans chipped in on defence with an interception, and Rachel Paddle also picked off a Ravens pass, while rusher Rachel Pugh kept the opposition under pressure.

Replying for the Ravens were Nikita Kitagawa and Morgan Rogers with one touchdown apiece.

Also on Sunday, Marilou Sullivan scored four touchdowns and added two interceptions as the Crew tamed the Wild 47-0. Jess Lines had two touchdowns in the first quarter, and Kat Owens also scored. Jennie Hittinger, Kerynne Bain and Nenagh McCulloch had converts, and on defence, McCulloch had two sacks and Janelle Mould grabbed an interception.

Finally, the Law doubled up on the Blue Steel Brew 26-13. Law stats were unavailable, but Michelle Nederlof led BSB with a touchdown and a single point on a punt, and Karen Olsen also scored.

In last Friday’s game, the Crew were beating the Ravens 12-0 when the Ravens had to bow out, giving the Crew a 25-0 forfeit win. The Ravens lost quarterback Jamie Russell to an injury and had to end the game due to a lack of players.
