Clay Stothers (Okanagan Golf Club) won a three-man playoff Monday to claim the Callaway Interior PGA Tour stop at the Vernon Golf & Country Club.
Jesse Crowe (Two Eagles Golf Course & Academy, Kelowna) and Ian Henson (Booster Juice Academy) tied Stothers for 1st with even par rounds of 72.
Stothers (37-35), Crowe (35-37) and Henson (38-34) headed to the par-4 opening hole for the playoff. Crowe three-putted from 12 feet for a bogey, while Henson made bogey out of the bunker. Stothers hit his approach shot 30 feet from the hole and two-putted for par.
Stothers pocketed $450, while Crowe and Henson each earned $312.
There was a field of 18 with Rob Anderson of Kelowna, Shane Pugliese of Kelowna’s Tower Ranch and Miles Palahniuk of the Okanagan Club each shooting 73.
Anderson and Palahniuk were the only players to birdie the par-3 fifth hole. Palahniuk came within three inches of an ace.
Lee Ranger of The Rise garnered a 74, while Vernon’s Brooks Jones carded a 77 and Vernon head pro Shannon Glenesk had a 79. Order of Merit leader Dean Claggett of Two Eagles shot 77.
Meanwhile, Myles Johnson of Spallumcheen shot a final-round 71 Thursday to finish in a two-way share of 13th place in the PGA Assistants’ Championship of Canada at the Willows Golf Club in Saskatoon.
Johnson was 1-over par after carding back-to-back 70s in the field of 108. Justin Baillargeon of Vernon missed the cut at 75-78-153. Bill Walsh of Markham, Ont. defeated Lindsay Bernakevitch of Richmond in a sudden-death playoff for the title. Walsh ended up 67-69-68-204 and Bernakevitch 67-70-67-204.
Bryn Parry of North Vancouver set a course record Tuesday when he opened with a 10-under 62. He followed with rounds of 72 and 71 to tie for third with Greg Machtaler of Summerland.
Parry’s 62 scorecard included four birdies and an eagle on the par five fifth hole for a six-under 30 before making the turn and making birdies at the 10th, 11th, 12th and 16th holes for a four-under 32 on the back nine.
