The Strathcona Nordic Ski Club hosted the final two races in the 2019-20 Teck Coast Cup race series, Feb. 15 and 16 at Mount Washington.
Including local racers, the event drew about 112 skiers from clubs in Pemberton, Vancouver and Rossland. There were even a few competitors from Club Deportivo Cordillera in Chile. Racers ranged from three to 65 years old.
Strathcona swept the podium in many of the categories Saturday in the Coast Cup #5, which was a free technique interval start race.
The Coast Cup #6 on Sunday was a mass start team sprint relay on a rolling ski cross course featuring bumps, sharp corners and steep banked turns. Teams of two completed three laps each on the fun but challenging course. Again, the Strathcona Nordic Ski Club swept the podium. Some of the youngest racers in the relay were even using the “Klaebo Klop” (running on skis) technique as they approached the finish line.
