After two years of recording shoot scores and competing across Canada — including four Canadian Championships — Cariboo Archers Fred Streleoff and Al Campsall have been named to Team Canada to compete at the World Championships in France in 2017.
Only three men in Streleoff’s and Campsall’s categories were selected.
Both archers were selected first overall.
This is the third straight time Streleoff has been selected first overall for traditional archers in the Canada-wide competition.
In 2013, Streleoff just missed the podium to finish fifth in the World Championships, held on the island of Sardinia, Italy.
His was Canada’s best finish that year.
This time, Streleoff’s scores dominated the competition. His closest rivals’ scores were seven per cent lower than Streleoff’s.
He has won eight Canadian Championships and is expected to perform well in France.
Despite Campsall’s winning percentage being not quite as high as Streleoff’s, his scores topped all compound archers across Canada and were less than one tenth of a per cent above the second-place archer.
The third-place archer finished one half of a per cent behind Campsall.
This will be Campsall’s fourth World Championships with Team Canada.
He has amassed a remarkable 18 Canadian Championships.
Both Streleoff and Campsall work tirelessly on their archery form, travel extensively to compete across Canada and are grateful for the community support they have received over the years.
