Laura Lynn Dyck continues to make an impression on the national body building scene.
The 41-year-old physiotherapist from Kelowna turned in another strong performance at the IFBB (International Federation of Body Building) World Qualifier April 27 in Winnipeg.
Facing a high level of competition, Dyck placed fourth in the Masters Figure category, and sixth in the Open Figure division.
The results qualify Dyck for several international competitions, including the 2013 and 2014 IFBB North American Championships in Pittsburgh, the Arnold Classic Europe in Madrid, the Arnold Classic Brazil and the Arnold Amateur in Columbus. Laura Lynn will also hear in the near future if she has secured a spot on Team Canada to compete at the IFBB Women’s World Bodybuilding, Bodyfitness and Fitness Championships later this year in Kiev, Ukraine.
Dyck qualified for her most recent competition by placing first in her category at the BCABBA Western Canadians in Kelowna last May.
She was able to take some time off to ski with her family over the winter but then ramped up her training about 12 weeks ago.
Dyck credits her success at the competition to her intense workouts with trainer Brandt Fralick of Nitro Velocity, which included lifting weights, sprinting, running stairs, “a lot of other crazy exercises” and a healthy diet.
Judging in the sport of Figure (also known as body fitness) can be somewhat complex, as competitors are judged on their overall athletic appearance with a focus on proportion and symmetry, tone and beauty/stage presence.
