Strong start to season for Athletics

Okanagan's offense clicks as A's take three of four from White Rock in B.C. Premier Baseball League action

If the opening weekend of the B.C. Premier Baseball League season is a sign of things to come, then offense shouldn’t be a problem for the Okanagan Athletics’ this season.

The A’s scored 31 times in their 2014 season-opening series over the weekend at Elks Stadium, taking three of four games from the White Rock Tritons.

On Saturday, the A’s beat the Tritons 6-5 as Jarrid Young singled home the winner in an extra inning. James Walker added two RBI’s, while Davis Todosichuk picked up the win in relief.

The Tritons rebounded for a 10-8 win in Game 2, with Young delivering a pair of RBIs in the loss.

On Sunday, the A’s pounded out a 12-5 win in the opener, as Young had three hits and three RBIs. Thomas Sloan and Walker had three hits apiece, while Easton Forrest went six innings on the mound for the win.

In the series finale, Matt Brodt tossed a six-hitter for the A’s in a 5-1 win. Trevor Lofstrom and Alex Russell knocked in two runs each.

Young finished the weekend with seven hits and six RBIs, while Walker had seven hits, three RBIs and two stolen bases.

The Athletics (3-1) will visit the Abbotsford Cardinals this weekend, with doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday.
