The Rev El Stoked Stoked to Get Spanked mountain bike race had a strong turnout of 130 riders for the Sunday, July 10 race.

A total of 130 competed, up by 10 from last year despite many local riders being out of town for other competitions.

“Everybody seems to be really stoked,” said organizer and new Skookum Cycles manager Mike Gravelle, who was overseeing the race for the first time this year. “The amount of volunteers that showed up were amazing.”

Thursday’s windstorm toppled many trees onto the course, so volunteers had to get out there with chainsaws to clear it.

Also of note were the 30 riders aged 3–8 who raced in the Lil Spankies division, which was offered for the first time this year.

The 35-kilometre elite track was changed up a bit this year to included more single-track and less logging road.

Gravelle thanked all the volunteers including Bruno Long for clearing the trees, the Revelstoke Cycling Association, the Revelstoke Nordic Club and sponsors the Village Idiot and Mt. Begbie Brewing Co.
