It’s been a very strong season for Apex Ski Club.

The club had current skiers and alumni participating at the Junior Nationals in Beaver Valley, Ont. from March 15 to 20 and Senior Nationals at Camp Fortune, near Ottawa, on March 12 and 13. The senior skiers competed in single and double moguls, while the juniors competed in both mogul events and slopestyle.

“It went very well,” said head coach Kenni Kuroda of how both groups performed. “Senior Nationals is a really big event, it’s the best in Canada, including the Canadian National Team. So the field is very deep, and I feel we did very well there.”

Apex skiers and alumni saw top 25 finishes in the senior dual moguls as Jamie Rykruiter placed 15th, Mason Barzilay claimed 16th, Chloe Kober 18th, and Shaina Finlayson 23rd. In the same event for men, Brayden Kuroda placed 19th. In senior single moguls, Mason Barzilay came 13th, and in the men’s category Noah Spence placed 14th and Brayden Kuroda came 22nd.

“It was definitely a success,” coach Kuroda said. “Like I said the field is so deep, and competing against the national teams is such a thrill. It’s a great opportunity to see how well you can do against them. It was a very successful event, as far as I can see.”

The completion of Nationals signals the wind down of the skiing season for Apex’s athletes, who can now carry a lot of success with them into summer and the offseason.
